Lesson Plans - Tiny Talk with Benny and Sue
30 Minute Tiny Talk Lesson Plans Nen sho, Ages 3-4.
Lesson One: Introductions
▪ Greet the children and take role ▪ Sing a hello song ▪ Introduce yourself (have the children practice asking `what`s your name`) ▪ Introduce Benny and Sue through puppets. (again have the children practice asking `what`s your name?`) ▪ Ask each child their name individually and supply the answer if they aren`t sure. ▪ Introduce colours using flashcards ▪ Game: Get the kids into a circle. Put all of the cards face-down in the middle of the circle. Give one child a ball and have them drop it on any card they like. Turn the card over and have the child (or all the children) say what the card is. Play until everyone has a chance. ▪ Student book: (pages 4&5) Have the children point out Benny and Sue. Encourage them to tell you what colours each of them are wearing ▪ Activity book: (page 6) Instruct the children to circle all of the Benny faces, each a different colour, according to your command. Then colour in the circle. ▪ Sticker page and goodbye song
Lesson 2: Benny and Sue
▪ Greet the children and take role ▪ Sing a hello song ▪ Review `what`s your name`, modeling with Benny and Sue first, and then with each child ▪ Review colours with the flashcards. (present the cards in a different style – ie slow reveal) ▪ Game: Have the children line-up at one end of the room. Place the flashcards in a row (colours and Benny/Sue), face-down, at the other end. Call out 3-2-1 Go! And have the children race to pick up a card and then sit back down. Ask each child individually what card they have. Give them lots of praise. ▪ Game: What`s missing? – play with 4-5 cards maximum. ▪ Student book: (pages 4-7) Play snap, by having the children place their hands on their head. Call out a colour, or Benny or Sue and have the children race to touch what you`ve called out first. ▪ Activity Book: (page 7) Circle the Sue faces the same way you did with the Benny faces the previous lesson ▪ Sticker page and goodbye song
Lesson 3: Miss Dolly
▪ Greet the children and take role ▪ Sing a hello song ▪ Introductions: Practice what`s your name. (at this time you could play a little microphone spin game to make it more fun for the kids) ▪ Flashcards: Introduce Miss Dolly and review Benny and Sue ▪ Game: Line-jump game. Put some sort of line down on the floor and have the children jump back and forth over it. Explain that one side of the line is for Benny and one side is for Sue. (and eventually Miss Dolly) Have the children chant `Benny` or `Sue` depending on which character you`ve called out, and jump to the correct side. After awhile, try to confuse them by shouting `benny`, but showing the Sue card. (chances are they won`t get this game on the first try, but if you play it enough, they will start to get it and love it) ▪ Sing the hi, hello song (unit 1 part 1) ▪ Student book: (pages 8&9) Have the children point out Benny, Sue and Miss Dolly. At this time it might be fun to put in some of the stickers (or you might want to save these until all of the children can do one) ▪ Activity book: (page 10) Have the children circle all of the same pictures. (keep in mind they probably won`t understand this activity and will circle the different picture as well. If you have a sample to show them, it helps, but chances are several of the children will make a mistake with this page. Don`t worry about it) ▪ Sticker page and goodbye song
Lesson 4: Review Lesson
▪ Greet the children and role ▪ Sing a hello song ▪ Introductions (name) ▪ Review: All cards – (don`t be surprised if even by now some of the children still don`t recognize the characters) ▪ Please give me: Start to practice `here you are`, `thank-you`, `you`re welcome` by handing the cards out to the student who correctly names them, and then asking for them back when you have
